Cents for Seeds is a micro-loan agricultural project in northern Uganda. Uganda is home to some of the most fertile land in the world, however, in the years following the war, the people did not have anything to farm with – enter, Cents for Seeds.
A seed loan empowers a woman with the resource to farm and harvest food for her family, and generate income to pay for school fees and health care, setting her on the path to overcome poverty.
The Kristina Health Centre fulfilled the dream of our co-founder Julius Achon to build a medical clinic in honour of his mother, Kristina, who was shot and killed during the war in 2004. If she had access to a medical clinic at that time, she would have lived.
Previously the closest medical centre was 78km away, so there was a large need in Otuke. Now, communities can access health care at KHC in a clean, safe and qualified environment – something we believe everyone should have access to.
Our water well drilling project, Well Worth It, came out of the results of our Impact Report survey in Cents for Seeds. Women participating in Cents for Seeds explained how access to water was a barrier to wellbeing.
With each new well drilled and broken well repaired, communities in northern Uganda are now provided with access to clean water – something that they may not have had before.
