The singing and dancing – they have gone to the effort of preparing something for you. I was in tears. They have nothing and yet want to give you whatever they can – their voices, their movement.
I have heard so many stories about the women and the projects. To be here and hear their testimonies in person is something else. Generosity is measure so differently here.
My highlight is certainly playing with the kids. Sport is a universal language.
Sitting in the meeting and being thanked for being there – very overwhelming! We haven’t done a whole lot really, but they have come 20, 30, 50kms just to see us and say thankyou.
I’ve been a few times now so it is nice to catch up with women who have become my friends. Mums work hard here and look after their kids so well.
It is clear when we sit on the other side of the room there is a divide. But the divide melts away instantly – singing, dancing and clapping makes it disappear.
Hearing their stories and knowing their names made it all so personal. It felt like we were home and they had invited us over to their place.
